I met Carina, the 7-pound Maltese, because her wonderful mother Janice bid on a silent auction my public radio station, KPCC, was having. I offered three silent auctions and Carina was the last of the three (I know you've seen Jack and Mongoose and little Frankie).
We first photographed Carina at Janice's home last week but the skies were quite gloomy, not letting in a lot of light into Janice's beautiful home. Still, we got some memorable photos. But then Janice suggested we do another session at her condo at the beach. Yes, please! More of that! So yesterday I headed down to the beach, misled by Waze, the traffic app, which had me go around downtown Los Angeles to get to the beach. Suffice it to say, it was not a good route. Yes, I was 45 minutes late but it turned out it didn't matter. Janice and Carina were spending the afternoon with a friend and they were busy having fun while I was stuck and by the time I arrived, the light started getting good.
You know, if you're shooting outside, the best time is an hour to an hour and half before sunset. I mean really, don't bother if you can't do it later, you won't get that golden glow. So while we struggled indoors last week with the gray skies, we were blessed with a clear day for our beach shoot.
We thought Carina would tucker early... she's just such a tiny thing... but that girl kept running and running on the beach. She loved it so much, it was so fun to watch her.
So while we have tons of photos to choose from, I'm showing just three for right now... one, a black and white at Janice's main house... Carina on the piano. Two, Carina running on the beach. And three, Carina getting the beach washed off of her. All quite different. I like the many faces of Carina.
