Karen called because she has a mother and daughter pair of dogs, Olive and Oona -- beautiful Welsh terriers. Olive is 8 1/2 and Oona is 7. Karen wanted to get in a shoot before Olive showed her age... she looks beautiful now. Olive, you'll recognize, because she has the curlier coat of the two. Oona has a straighter, redder coat. It took me a while to figure it out.
When we first talked, we were in the middle of the drought here in Los Angeles. Well, a good five years into it and everything was brown. But as luck would have it, by the time we could get the shoot on the books, the skies had opened up and it rained. And rained. And rained. And then when the sun peeked through, it turned green. Gorgeous green that the photographers back east curse at because it's so neon. Yeah, we don't get that in summer. It's absolutely glorious.
So Karen and I and the girls ventured out to my favorite local park. There are so many gopher holes in the part of the park I took them to that they just went crazy. Terriers just don't really run out of steam. They ran like it rained this season. Never stopped. First we photographed Oona, who has delighted to romp in the grass. And then Olive went even crazier. She just had a blast searching for little mammals she could destroy. She didn't find one.
Now you'll notice that it looks like they really did run freely. Well, my friend, it's always safety first around here and every single photo that was taken, they had a leash on. It was a long orange one that Karen had the reins of but there was a lead on the entire time.
I created a little slideshow of our pet photography shoot and here are just a few images of our great little outing. It moved Karen to tears to see her girls this way. Happy tears.
