creative pet photography los angelesSo in December, I photographed Seamus and Maddie. Seamus is what his owner Tracy calls "the ridiculously photogenic mastiff." And he is. I put a call out on my Facebook page (oh please stop by, it's fun there!) for a dog model and Tracy volunteered Seamus.

What I was looking for was to add to my growing collection of "I Love L.A." shoots. This is where we go to an iconic place in Los Angeles and have a quick photo. Sometimes these aren't particularly long sessions... we're going for one thing that works... and that was the case with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art photo shoot at the Urban Light sculpture. That place is popular. Tons of locals and tourists all jam around the lights to have their photos taken. I did a shoot there last year with a family and was dying to photograph a dog there.

My requirements, though, were that the shoot had to take place in the middle of the week because I know what a madhouse it is there on weekends. And it had to be at dusk when the lights turn on. Tracy could not only bring Seamus on a Monday evening but the museum is closed on Monday so that made it even better. Less people to contend with.

We were cautioned by the security guard that the light stand wasn't to touch the ground (good thing we had my assistant Vicki to hold it!) and that Seamus wasn't allowed to wander inside the light standards. No problem!

Even for a Monday, there were still quite a few people and some of them just lingered within the poles and were very visible (I'm looking at you, guy in the turquoise shirt) but we managed to get a few images. Now Seamus, as a mastiff, is a beast. Getting him to turn around is like manuevering an oil tanker. Dude is a big boy. And getting him to close his massive jaws isn't easy, either... unless you have the magic peanut butter and a quick finger on the shutter release. Done.

When I got home, I breezed through the images. A few were okay but most of them were meh... meh... meh. And then I saw one that I thought I could work with. And once I was finished with it, it went immediately on to my website, I liked it that much. No, I loved it that much! Love!

Do you know of an interesting place in Los Angeles, our fair city, where you would want a photo session for your dog? I'm all perky ears. And I have compiled a collection of places I want to photograph a dog. Where do you want to go? Give me a call at 818.481.5214 and let's plan a session. I'm Diana Lundin and I'm a pet photographer here in Los Angeles. And yes, pet photography is a specialty, not a sideline.
