I already wrote about how I'm currently away from my worldwide headquarters because of a house remodel. I'm staying at a residential hotel in Woodland Hills, which is about 10 miles from my home. We've been exploring the neighborhood and my partner found Serrania Park just a short five minute drive away from us. It has a huge area where dogs are free to catch balls and flying discs. It also has hiking trails and a paved path around the perimeter, which I've been walking in the morning.

Just as I enter the park, there is a small grassy hill and I've been thinking it's a great place to photograph a dog. So I thought maybe the park would be good for sunset shots. It turns out the area where the dogs run is filled with shadows in the early evening. But that little hill? Golden light shines on it. So I saw a cute dog the other day and asked his owner if he wouldn't mind if I took a few pictures.

The cute little terrier is Sydney -- he has his own Instagram page (of course he does) and the owner is Carleton.

So they ambled on up the hill and I positioned them in the light and Carleton got down to Sydney's level for a sweet pet. The light was gorgeous. They moved over to another part of the hill and posed similarly and then Carleton lifted Sydney and they both looked off into the sunset. The light was stunning. I think I might have mentioned that.

So even with the similar poses, I'm showing my favorites of that little impromptu pet shoot.

By the way, for this, I used my Fuji X-T2 and my 50-140mm lens. That little Fuji has quickly become my favorite camera to shoot almost everything with. It's much lighter than my Canon and Nikon and while it isn't perfect for everything, it's great for a variety of shoots, pets included.
