You read winter and if you're not from one of the temperate states, maybe you think snow. Well, my friends, this pet photography photo shoot does not have any snowy elements. In fact, on the day we photographed these four dogs and two cats on an estate overlooking the Pacific Ocean at the end of December, it was pretty darn toasty outside, right around 80 degrees. Some would actually call it hot, at least I know I was sweating when we were shooting outside the bright, brilliant sunlight of mid-day Los Angeles. But anyway, I got a chance to photograph Cooper, Kitty, Scooter, Ink, Spotty and Titan. All with very distinct personalities.I loved this shoot. Yes, it took a long time, what with six ...
Kim Sill has produced "Saved in America," a documentary on her findings and subsequent protests of the puppy mill industry along with her admiration for the boots on the ground volunteers of animal rescues. The documentary opened Friday for a weeklong run at the Agoura Hills Stadium 8. Kim founded Shelter Hope Pet Shoppe, which now has shops in Thousand Oaks, Sacramento and Santa Clarita. They are model pet shops because the animals offered for adoption come straight out of the shelters, not puppy mills. Shelter Hope is one of my favorite organizations and I met Kim because I offered to photograph some adoptable animals for them. I also created the poster for the documentary, including the ...
Last year, Hope for Paws asked me to photograph a pit bull mother and her four puppies that Eldad Hagar and his team rescued. I was happy to do it and actually had two photo shoots with Lexi and her puppies. This weekend, I went to The Little Red Dog's Founder's Day (TLRD fostered the puppies and mom until they were ready to be adopted) in Lake Forest and Lexi, Cooper and Beamer were there! I really don't think they recognized one another. But it was great to have them reunited.Cooper is being raised by Jennifer and Jeff Harmell, who adore him. Beamer is brother to an older, protective sister named Sydney and is owned by Mark and Denise Needham. And Lexi, who was the first of all five to be ...
I like working with The Little Red Dog so when PJ let me know there were nine puppies and a mama to be photographed, I was all in.Now these babies aren't ready for adoption quite yet... they're only four weeks old. But now they have their baby pictures all done! Mama was a sweet dog, too. I imagine very patient as well... nine puppies? That's a lot of puppies! It was 106 degrees out when we took the photos. Yes, outside. We set up our studio outside. It was hot, let me tell you. But no puppy was outside for more than two or three minutes so no one overheated. Plus, they were covered. And they all look like they just woke up from a nap... which is exactly what was going. So let me present to ...
I love shooting for Hope for Paws and when Lisa Arturo contacted me, I made some time in my schedule to meet up with her again and finally meet Eldad Hagar, who does so many of the daring rescues and creates really heartbreaking, emotional videos (with if not quite a happy ending, a to-be-continued ending in which the dog is looking for its forever home. It's all good but by the time I'm finished watching them, I'm pretty much a sobbing pile of tears). The reason for the call? Lisa and Eldad rescued Thor from a garbage pile. I mean, a huge, tall, kind of frightening trash heap where he had been living. It was quite a harrowing rescue because, well, you can see it here. You'll see him ...
