I love shooting for Hope for Paws and when Lisa Arturo contacted me, I made some time in my schedule to meet up with her again and finally meet Eldad Hagar, who does so many of the daring rescues and creates really heartbreaking, emotional videos (with if not quite a happy ending, a to-be-continued ending in which the dog is looking for its forever home. It's all good but by the time I'm finished watching them, I'm pretty much a sobbing pile of tears).
The reason for the call? Lisa and Eldad rescued Thor from a garbage pile. I mean, a huge, tall, kind of frightening trash heap where he had been living. It was quite a harrowing rescue because, well, you can see it here.
You'll see him scrambling about big, ferocious blocks of trash trying to get away from Eldad, who is intent on saving him. It took a couple of days to get him. He was deep within a hulking tower of garbage and it took heavy equipment to clear a path for Eldad to try and rescue him. He was finally cornered in a fenced area but he was quite a frightened pit bull.
So I met up with them in Hollywood at an adoption event and we went up the street a bit, found a nice patch of grass (harder than ever to find in Los Angeles these days, what with the drought and everything) and we had a little photo shoot.
Thor has the biggest smile. See? His life changed so drastically. Because Eldad and Lisa cared.
Here are a few images from our shoot.
